Superheat employees Brandy Groux, Bret Cadenhead, Andrew Goodrich, and Teresa Pusley (pictured) were honored to attend the esteemed 36th Annual Safety Excellence Awards (SEA) on May 19th. Hosted by the Health and Safety Council (HASC) and Houston Business Roundtable (HBR), the event gathered more than 1600 attendees to recognize the pinnacle of safety achievements. These awards commend contractors and subcontractors in the Texas Gulf Coast Area who have demonstrated exceptional on-the-job safety promotion and performance throughout the year. The award process serves a twofold purpose: to celebrate outstanding safety practices and to foster a culture of continuous improvement through the sharing and observation of best practices. It’s an opportunity for participants to learn from one another and raise the bar of safety excellence.

The awards process begins with client nominations. Once nominated, companies must compile and submit evidence of their safety programs, addressing specific topics outlined by HBR. Nominees chosen as finalists must provide comprehensive evidence of their entire safety program, demonstrating the presence of policies and procedures while offering tangible proof of implementation. To ensure a thorough evaluation, an auditing group led by one of the key principal facility owners conducts on-site visits to each finalist company. These auditors meticulously review the submitted documents and engage with employees and management during a comprehensive field review. The audit team also evaluates the company’s culture during this exercise. After the assessment, each auditor assigns a score to the finalist company, which is then submitted to the lead auditor. The companies remain unaware of their audit results or possible award level until their name is announced during the awards ceremony.

Quote from Bret Cadenhead, Regional HSE Manager "This accolade is a testament to the collective effort of every employee who has embraced our safety culture and actively supported this process."

We graciously received nominations from prestigious organizations such as Delek Refinery, Valero Refinery, The Dow Chemical Company – Texas Operations, JVIC, and LyondellBasell HRO. Companies are categorized as part of the awards process, and Superheat was placed in the “Hard Craft Medium” category. We are thrilled to announce that following a rigorous evaluation and audit process, we have been honored with the esteemed “Gold” Safety Excellence Award in our category. This notable achievement highlights that our company’s safety program, both in the field and through documentation, has successfully met the requirements and incorporated a range of best practices, surpassing average standards. We take immense pride in this recognition and have since implemented action items from the audit to improve our safety program further.  We will continue to prioritize safety in all our endeavors.

In response to this remarkable accomplishment, Bret Cadenhead, Regional HSE Manager, expressed his gratitude, saying, “The comprehensive Safety Excellence Awards process truly humbles Superheat. It entailed a meticulous examination of our company’s HSE processes and the underlying culture we have created. Being chosen as a finalist in our inaugural year of nomination was a significant achievement. However, receiving the prestigious Gold Award in our category was nothing short of extraordinary.”

It is a testament to the collective effort of every employee who has embraced our safety culture and actively supported this process.”

He concluded with a heartfelt appreciation, extending his thanks to everyone involved, saying, “I want to express my deepest gratitude to our nominators and to each individual who has embraced our safety culture and contributed to our success. This award stands as a testament to your hard work and support. Let us all take pride in this achievement and continue to prioritize the well-being of our team and those around us as we move forward.”

We are immensely proud of the recognitions and accolades we receive, fully recognizing their significance. The weight they carry serves as a constant reminder of our commitment to excellence. We will persistently strive to uphold the exceptionally high standards we have set, leading the way toward a safer and brighter future in the on-site heat treatment industry. Thank you very much to those who nominated us, those who uphold our standards and practices daily, the HBR, and the HASC.
