Superheat Heat Treatment

A Smart Approach to Heat Treatment During Fabrication

Introduction:

Superheat was awarded the contract to a fabrication facility to perform post weld heat treatment on a limited scope. Once on site, the scope increased vastly, and it became clear that more manpower and equipment would be required. Leveraging Superheat’s innovative technology allowed technicians to work in advance of the client, while welders were notified in real time of pre-heat temperatures using the Superheat SmartPak™ technology. The Superheat SmartCenter™ allowed for remote monitoring of the project and assisted in achieving maximum production with limited manpower.

Background:

Superheat was issued a purchase order from an existing client that required on-site heat treatment to AWS D10.10 code specifications. Since the client had little to no previous experience with heat treatment under the D10.10 code, concerns were raised as to the amount of manpower and equipment that would be required. Attention was also raised regarding the setup of post-weld wraps and the ability to meet the specific code requirements of AWS D10.10.

Smart Solution:

By leveraging Superheat equipment and remote monitoring from the Superheat SmartCenter™, we were able to achieve maximum production. The Superheat SmartGen™ and Superheat SmartPoint™ equipment, which has the most thermocouples per heater in the industry, allowed Superheat to perform on-site pre-heats and post weld treatments without mobilizing additional units or manpower. Drawing from Superheat’s extensive library of Wrapping Specification Sheets, and aid from our Technical Engineering Department, Superheat was able to provide the client with detailed technical drawings. These drawings outlined how each post weld heat treatment would be performed, which appeased their concerns while effectively meeting the end user’s requirements.

Results:

By utilizing Superheat SmartWay™ processes, the job was successfully completed while maximizing production and minimizing downtime. The detailed Wrapping Specifications were incorporated into the client’s turnover packages, assuring the end user that only the highest quality of work had been performed. Superheat was able to complete this job on time, under budget, with a perfect safety record and a very satisfied customer.
