Introduction:
A 12-mile pipeline in Northern Alberta required both post-weld and pre-heat treatments to be applied. Using Superheat’s industry-leading and innovative approach to heat treatment, the process was not only completed on-budget, but a month ahead of schedule.
Background:
The facility needed a heat treatment system that could operate multiple welds simultaneously without sacrificing quality.
Problem:
Most heat treatment contractors’ mobile generators are built with maximizing power output in mind, and do not consider the importance of maximizing utilization. This contributes to idle contractors on-site, which can lead to project scheduling and budgetary overruns.
Smart Solution:
Using Superheat SmartGen™ mobile generator units, estimating and technical groups were able to calculate a better configuration for heat treating the pipe. The Superheat SmartWay™ solution matched scope with the appropriate complement of equipment and capacity – maximizing equipment utilization for the heat treatment process. Leveraging the Superheat SmartCenter™ allowed welds to be continuously monitored and controlled, producing a situation in which all on-site technicians were productive throughout the entirety of the project
Results:
Superheat SmartCenter™ was able to monitor the process in real-time, allowing faster decision making at the job site and less idle time. That, in turn, led to the project being completed a month early and 28% less expensive than the closest bid from other heat treatment contractors.
