Today and every day, we honor the life and legacy of David Norman MacArthur, a mentor whose impact extended far beyond the businesses he built.
Above all, Norm was devoted to his family, who remained at the center of his life and are the foundation behind everything he achieved.
Norm built more than organizations; he invested in people. He had a remarkable ability to recognize potential in others long before they saw it in themselves, often creating opportunities that changed the trajectory of their lives or careers. He believed deeply that when you empower people, success will follow. This was a philosophy that defined his leadership and one that he lived by every day.
From humble beginnings on the 9th concession, Norm launched Global Heat, which grew into a multi-office North American business before he founded Superheat in 2000. Under his leadership, Superheat expanded into a global organization with more than 25 offices across key oil, gas, and energy markets in North America, the UK, and the Middle East. He was a true innovator whose patents and ideas shaped the industry, advancing new possibilities in on-site heat treatment. Norm often challenged the status quo, asking, “So, you’re telling me nowhere in the world they are doing this?”, which reflected his belief that barriers could be overcome through innovation, determination, and a willingness to try.
He was more than a CEO; he led with humility, listened with intent, and credited others first, even during periods of significant growth. His vision influenced the evolution of on-site heat treatment, advancing the industry’s approach to technology, safety, and execution.
Beyond his professional achievements, Norm quietly gave back through private philanthropy. His generosity reflected his humble, thoughtful character and his focus on making a meaningful difference in the communities where he lived and where Superheat operated.
His legacy lives on through his family, the people he believed in, the opportunities he created, and the culture he built. That legacy is one of humbleness, accountability, innovation, and belief in others, which will continue to guide Superheat and the people within it for years to come.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be dearly missed and remembered.
