Check out our 4th collaboration with WeldTube! This time we’re performing a preheat application using our Superheat SmartWay™ technology on an 18″ 9 chrome pipe prior to and during the WeldTube crew working on the weld.
In short, preheating is the application of controlled heat to a base metal prior to and throughout welding. The primary purpose is to drive off moisture prior to welding to reduce the cooling rate and increase hydrogen diffusion within the weld to prevent cracking. Reducing the cooling rate also redistributes solidification stresses and reduces the formation of hard or brittle microstructure components associated with a defective weld.
To get an inside look at this form of on-site heat treatment, be sure to watch the video below. Stay tuned for more content with WeldTube coming soon!
