Check out our 4th collaboration with WeldTube! This time, we’re performing a preheat application using our Superheat SmartWay™ technology on an 18″ 9 chrome pipe before and during the WeldTube crew working on the weld.
In short, preheating is the application of controlled heat to a base metal before and throughout welding. The primary purpose is to drive off moisture before welding to reduce the cooling rate and increase hydrogen diffusion within the weld to prevent cracking. Reducing the cooling rate also redistributes solidification stresses and reduces the formation of hard or brittle microstructure components associated with a defective weld.
